Explore historical cities, ancient castles, stone age passage tombs, underground rivers and undertake adventures across Ireland. This tour is more of an action tour and will transport people back in time where they will learn about Ireland through the ages and its geographical landscape. Sports play a part, too, with water adventures in Mayo and an introduction to the world’s fastest field sport, hurling, in Kilkenny.
This is a looped/circular tour that begins and ends in Dublin City.

Dublin, County Dublin
Start your day in the capital by taking to land and sea on a Viking Splash Tour to drink in the sites of Dublin and learn about the city’s Viking past. Visit Kilmainham Gaol for a sharp scare. This is the prison used in The Italian Job and Michael Collins and where Irish republican leader, James Connolly, among many others, was executed. Finish the day exploring any of the National Museums of Ireland with highlights ranging from Carrivaggio’s dramatic Last Supper to Viking longboats and booty.
Newgrange, County Meath
Older than Egypt’s Great Pyramid of Giza and Stonehenge is the Passage Tomb at Newgrange. Here tour guides will explain the significance and importance of the tomb to the people who built it and what it can tell us about Stone Age civilisation. A tour of the equally impressive Knowth and Dowth tombs is recommended, where you will find a third of Western Europe’s megalithic art – it’s the kind of place Indiana Jones would just love. Tours for both sites leave from the Brú na Bóinne visitor centre.
Titanic Belfast, County Antrim
Visit Titanic Belfast and learn about the historic ship in the city it was built in. Here, at the newest and largest Titanic museum on earth, visitors learn about the ship’s construction in the world famous Harland & Wolff. Gantry rides, and recreated rooms link the story from build to bust while tales of the ship’s passengers and theories about what happened on the night of April 14th 1912 are still chilling. Arguably the highlight, the chance to virtually explore the wreckage of the ship is an eerie reminder that the Titanic is still with us.
Here in the 2013 City of Culture, take a mural tour you can learn the history of the city and how it’s progressed towards a bright present. Local guide Martin McCrossan has welcomed Will Ferrell on his tour of the city’s walls so be sure to book his time. The Tower Museum is where groups will learn about the city’s history since it’s foundation and the shocking tale of the doomed Spanish Armada is told in high relief. Learn about workhouse life and the famine in The Workhouse Museum which remained open as a workhouse until 1948. Understand the North’s civil rights movement in the History of Free Derry museum.
Enniskillen, County Fermanagh
Enniskillen Castle was once home to the Maguire Chieftains in 15th Century Ireland and later became a military barracks. In the Castle Keep you will find The Museum of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers and the history of the castle itself. Special exhibitions can be found in the Heritage Centre while the Arcaded Barracks hosts displays on Fermanagh’s archeological and historical monuments. From the castle, travel to the nearby Marble Arch Caves and explore the errie underground world of rivers and waterfalls by boat.
Limerick City, County Limerick
Start your exploration of Limerick City by jumping into the world of Angela’s Ashes in the author’s old school at The Frank McCourt Museum or discover the city’s history in Limerick City Museum . Take in the City’s cathedrals, the Cathedral of St.John the Baptist and St.Mary’s Cathedral before a visit to King John’s Castle with an interpretive centre to tell the castle’s story. End the day with a tour of the home of Munster rugby, Thomond Park.
Kilkenny city, County Kilkenny
Step back in time with a tour of Kilkenny Castle sold to the city for just £50! Potter through some of the most psychedelic rooms in history and experience just how it was to live in serious luxury. Get epic views over Kilkenny by climbing up one of Ireland’s many Round Towers at St. Canice’s Cathedral before joining the Kilkenny Way Ultimate Hurling Experience for a crash course in the world’s fastest field sport.
A detour to Muckross House Gardens and Traditional Farms in Killarney, County Kerry is a must if you have time to spare. Experience rural life in 1930’s Ireland in the Traditional Farms, where fresh bread, scones and butter is made daily and tour the 19th Century Victorian mansion overlooking the stunning Killarney National Park. A touch further south, in Cobh, is where the Titanic took its last consignment of mail and passengers before leaving for the Atlantic. The Titanic Experience and Titanic Walking Tour are hugely engaging and will appeal to anyone who saw Cameron’s 1996 film.
