The Lancashire coast is another which boasts a chain of golf courses stretching from the great city of Liverpool to the pleasant resort town of Southport, home to Royal Birkdale, which has proved a popular Open venue since first joining the rota in 1954. Other courses well worth playing include West Lancashire (founded in 1873) and Formby, as well as other Southport links, notably Hesketh, Hillside and Southport & Ainsdale.
South of the Mersey is Royal Liverpool, hosting The Open in 2014 (Hoylake, the second oldest links in England and virtually unchanged since its founding). Also on the Wirral peninsula, lies Wallasey, less well known but also an excellent seaside course and interesting for its association with Dr Frank Stableford, who devised the popular scoring system that bears his name.
To the north is Royal Lytham & St Annes, a championship links renowned for its severity, whilst further north still, those travelling south from Scotland who have bypassed the championship course at Southerness near Dumfries may care to detour into Cumbria, not to visit the lakes but to sample the joys of Silloth or Seascale.
For golfers, Wales is a voyage of discovery. It is a country so perfectly designed for the game, it's as if the forces of nature conspired to make it this way. There are some 200 courses set amidst the most spectacular scenery. With inspirational links, parkland courses in mountain settings, championship courses in the shadow of mighty medieval castles and luxuriously modern golfing resorts, Wales really is a golfer's paradise.
The long welsh coastline has many fine links. The notable courses to the south of the country include Celtic Manor, host to the Ryder Cup in 2010. Royal Porthcawl, Pyle and Kenfig, Pennard and Tenby (the oldest golf course in Wales) are all dotted along the coast giving excellent links play conditions.
Further north of the country, you will find Royal St David's, Porthmadog, Pwllheli and Nefyn and District, nestled along the coast. Each course providing a testing challenge and spectacular views. Nefyn and District is said to be one of the most spectacularly sited courses in the world.
On the north coast of wales you will find Conwy, North Wales and Maesdu all neighbours, with Bull Bay on the north coast of Anglesey not to be missed either. The itinerary below is only a sample. The price will depend on the type of accommodation required. We use 3/4/5 star hotels. Please contact our office for details
