2018 IRELAND'S WILD ATLANTIC WAY 13 DAYS / 12 NIGHTS

Day 1: SHANNON ARRIVAL & CLIFFS OF MOHER

Tour begins 2:00 PM, Ennis hotel. Ennis is 16 miles (25 km) from Shannon Airport, be sure to arrange transportation from your airport. Take in the spectacular beauty of the Cliffs of Moher – soaring 700 feet (200m) above the Atlantic surf. On a clear day, you can see across to the Aran Island. This evening, join your group for a welcome drink before enjoying dinner.

Day 2: GALWAY & CONNEMARA
Journey through the lovely Connemara region to admire the sweeping views of boglands and misty mountains. In Galway, join a local guide for a walking tour to see the medieval city walls, Lynch’s Castle and the narrow streets of the city center. Continue to Westport, an attractive estate town built in 1780, with lots of interesting shops and traditional pubs, many with live music.

Day 3: WESTPORT HOUSE & ACHILL ISLAND
Take a tour around the stately Westport House, which overlooks the ocean and contains a wealth of interesting portraits, furniture, silver and porcelain. Access Achill Island by bridge and follow the Atlantic Drive to capture wonderful views of steeply-sloped mountains plunging into the shimmering Atlantic Ocean. See the Deserted Village, 100 stone cottages abandoned around the time of the 1840’s Famine. Stop in Keel for a casual lunch before returning to Westport for a gentle walking tour around town. The evening is free for independent activities and dining.

Day 4: COUNTRY LIFE & DONEGAL CASTLE
Immerse yourself in the history of Irish life with a visit to the Museum of Country Life which features exhibits of domestic goods used during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Relax and enjoy a drive through Counties Mayo and Sligo and around Donegal Bay to Donegal town. Tour Donegal Castle, built by the O’Donnell chieftain in the 15th century and expanded in the 17th century, then continue to Stranorlar.

Day 5: GLENVEAGH CASTLE & GRAND ATLANTIC
Travel into the heart of Donegal to Glenveagh National Park where Captain Adair evicted 225 tenants to build Glenveagh Castle in 1870. Tour the rooms and walk around the extensive gardens filled with exotic plants. Experience the glorious natural beauty of the Grand Atlantic Drive, which winds around the coastline through Downings and Rosapenna. Return to Stranorlar with time to relax before dinner.

Day 6: DERRY & GIANT’S CAUSEWAY
Start your day in Derry with a local guide for a walking tour of this ancient yet contemporary city – with its medieval city walls, the Diamond and St. Columb’s Cathedral. Drive along the north coast, pausing for photos at Dunluce Castle. Explore the Giant’s Causeway, enormous hexagonal columns formed by volcanic activity over 60 million years ago. Experience wonderful scenery along the coastal Nine Glens of Antrim route and continue to Belfast.

Day 7: TITANIC BELFAST & DUBLIN’S ABBEY TAVERN
Take a panoramic tour around central Belfast followed by a visit to Titanic Belfast. Immerse yourself in the history of this ill-fated ocean liner through state-of-the-art displays. Visit Down Cathedral, historical burial place of St. Patrick, Ireland’s patron saint. In Dublin, head to the popular Abbey Tavern for a hearty dinner of Irish specialties and a lively traditional show.

Day 8: DUBLIN TOUR & BOOK OF KELLS
Tour Dublin city with its elegant Georgian squares and brightly-painted doorways, St. Stephen’s Green and shopping areas around Nassau Street. Cross the River Liffey to O’Connell Street and the General Post Office where the 1916 Rising started. Enjoy a guided walking tour through the campus of Trinity College to view the 8th century manuscript of the Book of Kells. In the afternoon use your independent vouchers for an open-top bus tour of central Dublin and a visit to Guinness Storehouse, Teeling Distillery, EPIC Ireland or the General Post Office Museum.

Day 9: BLARNEY CASTLE
Drive through prime agricultural country and pause for photos of the stately Rock of Cashel, a limestone outcrop containing 12th century church ruins. At Blarney Castle kiss the famous “Stone of Eloquence” or walk the lovely grounds. Treat yourself to quality Irish-goods at Blarney Woollen Mills or take a look around the village green. Travel along the picturesque County Cork coast to Rosscarbery.

Day 10: KILLARNEY’S JAUNTING CAR & DINGLE PENINSULA
Journey along the coastal route through Bantry, Kenmare to Killarney. Enjoy a horse-drawn jaunting car ride to view Ross Castle set on Killarney’s largest lake, Lough Leane before sitting down to a casual lunch. Drive along the Dingle Peninsula and stop at the South Pole Inn for an Irish coffee before continuing to Dingle town. Explore the charming town and return to your hotel for dinner.

Day 11: SHEEPDOGS & DINGLE BAY CRUISE
Discover the glorious Dingle Peninsula with heathery mountains and sandy beaches. Drive to Slea Head at the westernmost tip of the peninsula for lovely vistas and watch skilled dogs obeying commands from the shepherd to round up mountain sheep. Embark on a short cruise around Dingle Harbour and Bay for great panoramic views of the Ring of Kerry and the shoreline of the Dingle Peninsula. Spend an afternoon at leisure.

Day 12: FOYNES FLYING BOAT & MARITIME MUSEUM & MEDIEVAL BANQUET
At the Foynes Flying Boat & Maritime Museum discover the early days of aviation and passenger travel. Visit the Bunratty Folk Park to see traditional cottages and watch daily life of rural Irish families. While here, you might like to stroll over to Durty Nelly’s Pub for lunch. This evening, enjoy a medieval-style evening of feasting and song at either Bunratty or Knappogue Castle.
